I still think that the quote about things being “too short to
be saved, but too important to be thrown away still hits me in a way that
describes a lot of things I come in contact with throughout my life. There are often times in which I have had
things that I thought that I really didn’t need any more but I would still save
them. This could partly be to my need to
hoard things but it could also be related to how I view things as important or
unimportant. There are a lot of things
that I have to save just for the heck of it. Many times I don’t even know where
it came from, who did it, why whoever did it did it, or even what it is but I
still save them. I usually think that
whatever it is that I’m saving will eventually have another purpose, or I can
use it for something else. Writing into
the Day really lets me get the little quirky things or things that I have never
truly thought about in depth out of my mind and onto the page! Even sometimes when I’m writing into the Day
I run out of things to say but I keep writing and waiting for my thoughts to
jumpstart and catch back up.
Omg, my mom is such a hoarder. She saves absolutely everything, even mail. She has a pile of old grocery flyers and newspapers. I'm the opposite, if the thing/object has no purpose, goodbye! Ha but I do tend to save little sentimental things that people have given to me like cards and letters. I keep those in a shoe box in my closet and I'll go back and look at them from time to time.
ReplyDeleteBut sometimes I think, yeah why should I save this when I'm never gonna use it for anything? I guess we like to know that some things are just there if we ever needed/wanted them.
I thought your post was interesting because it was about you personally. It was cool to be let in on that fact about yourself. I'm an awful hoarder when it comes to clothes or shoes haha but that's about it. Sometimes I throw away too many things and then I'm left searching everywhere for it later!
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate to this haha I don't hoard random stuff, but I do tend to hold onto things that I think have important memories connected to them. In reality I don't need the object to remember the memory. Thanks for sharing this about yourself!
ReplyDeleteYou know this particular quote from that day in class when there were a whole list of quotes has just caught the attention of so many students. I am wondering if the concreteness of the string metaphor works with us to relate writing to our lives.
